FSUA took part in campus event held by J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences on April 8th, 2016 to commemorate the life and legacy of Senator J. W. Fulbright. Two featured speakers were Prof. Hoyt Purvis, former Press Secretary to Senator J. William Fulbright, and Febriyanti Lestari, current President of FSUA. The party was led by Dr. Kathryn Sloan, Chair of the History Department.
In her remarks, Febriyanti, on behalf of the FSUA members, underlined that “UA Fulbrighters are committed to continue the vision of Senator J. William Fulbright for mutual understanding and respect through sharing knowledge and cultural exchange, are committed to promote international peace through education, and are committed to a greater responsibility after we return to our home countries, that is, to bring in positive impact on our society.”
On the event, FSUA also gave retiring professor Hoyt Purvis a keepsake. We knew he is a big fan of Baltimore Orioles and decided to give a framed shirt with signatures by current Fulbrighters from Indonesia, Panama, Madagascar, Afghanistan, Botswana, and Pakistan with short messages in different languages thanking him for his great service to the University of Arkansas and his continuous support to UA Fulbrighters in the past few years. Dr. Purvis has been our inspiring figure, and we have been so lucky to have him as the Honorary advisor to our association.
