On the ISO Kick-Off, we took international students to watch women soccer at Razorback Field. It was on Monday, Aug 29th, the first day of the second week of classes. Over twenty students joined us. We gathered at the fountain in front of Arkansas Union building. While waiting for more students to come, James Flammer, ISO advisor, led the icebreaker activities such as by doing the “Aye Aye Captain” game and told some funny stories. We then walked together to the field for 10 minutes. We left our backpacks at a storage room that Jimmy posted and got into the stadium by showing our student ID. Arkansas Razorbacks provided free pizza and scarf for supporters. The game was very tight and ended with Razorbacks team victory 2-0, against MKCU. The weather was beautiful, and it was really fun. For new international student such as Lancina Doumbia from Mali, it was his first experience watching women soccer in America, though it was not his first time seeing women playing soccer. Soccer is a very popular sport in Africa, and even women have their own league. On the contrary, for Hatidza Jahic from Bosnia-Herzegovina, she said there is no women soccer in her country despite the fact that football is also very popular there. However, both enjoyed the game that day as our team won. (FL)
