Our Story

It all began many years ago. Established in 1967 by Dr. Raj V. Kilambi and 7 other professors, Friends of India was created from an idea to start an organization to help the upcoming new students and families feel at home by conducting various festivals, events, and get together parties. Over the years, we have strived to continuously cater to the needs of incoming international students. The unwavering support and enthusiasm of faculties, families in North West Arkansas, and students has made the organization successful in its endeavors. We believe continuous support at various levels will offer a positive experience in the lives of our students.

And so, we would like to thank all that has been a part of the Friends of India effort! As we continue forth with the 50th year, we continue to appreciate all the help and effort we receive.

Our Mission

Our goal is to facilitate the transition of students into the US academic community and acclimatize them to the clime and the general foreign setting of the University. Simultaneously, we aim to bring an exciting and diverse culture to the University of Arkansas campus, and introduce the beauty of Indian culture.

We believe that by helping international students acclimatize to this new environment and at the same time involve university students with Indian festivities and customs, we will promote a rich cross-cultural exchange in which individuals of different backgrounds can come together and share various beliefs and traditions.

This is more than 50 years. We hope to make this yet another grand and successful year in the history of Friends of India!
